Belmont Cragin Commision Comes To Completion

The Project

ComEd has given Merchant Street Art Gallery a commision for the creation of artwork for the conference rooms in the newly remodeled ComEd complex in Chicago’s Avondale neighborhood on the North Side. The art represents neighborhoods of the Chicago area and connects artists to learn more about areas of the city they may have not known before.

Many months have passed and work has come to completion on the ComEd Grant Project. Our Artists have worked very hard on this project and we are very proud of the sense of teamwork and cooperation our artists have shown.

The Purpose

This has been a unique opportunity that has allowed the Art As A Business group to work on a commissioned project. The project began the end of June and was targeted to complete by end of October/ November with five paintings depicting people, places and things of Belmont Cragin. Besides the obvious challenges of finding the subject matter to paint other necessary considerations were meeting times and time management. Dedication to attending such a long project wasn’t for all of our group but the members who succeeded to participate included Sean and Aric Turrell, Josh West, Jovan Ponnambalam, Andrew Carroll, Johnny Small, and Drew Carricker. We will be delivering the projects to the ComEd building at a future date.
